Explore technical singletracks of Iceland on eMTB

We are proud to present the first multi-day mountain bike trip in Iceland on a full suspension eMTB.  The trip includes 4 full days of biking and one day of recover/shuttle back to Reykjavík. Total of 5 days, 4 nights.

The Falcon is the result of scouting, riding and building eMTB suitable trails that showcases the best of Iceland trails. We base in town of Hveragerði village, located at the foot of dormant volcano, just by valleys for steam rising from ground in a geothermally active area. To top it up we head out to the highlands for one night of the trip. This is all about stunning nature on ever changing trails in the company of great local guides.  We pair this with good food, cold beer, warm showers and made up beds.

The Falcon eMTB trip includes riding past steaming puddles of mud. Passing through active geothermal areas. Navigating through a canyon to find one of the tallest waterfalls in the country – and riding in epic rhyolite backcountry. This is an action packed trip from start to end for riders with good technical skill level.

The main focus of the trip are two areas. Riding near the dormant HENGILL volcano where the Icebike team donates their time to trailbuild and we head into the nature reserve Landmannalaugar where roaming sheep have made fast singletracks in the mountains.  (With a little help from rangers and Icebike team)

We value: great trails, good company, great food, good beds, cold beverages and warm showers. In this order.

The facilities & practical aspects of the trip:
We overnight three nights in quirky village Hveragerði while we make use of MTB trails the Icebike team has built in surrounding geothermal area. Dinner in the village in your own time, choices range from fresh fish to great pizza. Overnight in a new hotel in the town center, twin or dbl rooms, single on request. When we head out to explore the backcountry we will overnight in the highland center, last stop before the nature reserve. In the highland centre we go for a group menu with options of fish, meat or vegetarian options. Twin or DBL rooms, single on request.

Solo or a group?
*No need to bring a group, solo riders welcome.  Price includes accommodation in twin or double rooms. Single rooms available at 90.000 ISK per person for the trip. . In the highland centre we go for a group menu with options of fish, meat or vegetarian options. Twin or DBL rooms, single on request.  If you have a group – don’t hesitate to contact us for a private or tailor made trip.
Want to know more:

In the centre of the island of Iceland there is little to no infrastructure. We call the area “the highlands or the backcountry2. The area is uninhabitable with harsh winters and only 8 weeks of summer. This creates a short window for biking – we ride in July & August. The area is a protected nature reserve, we treat it with respect and stay on trail always.  Mountain biking in Iceland is not about racing through the trails. It is as important to take a moment to enjoy the views.  To let the vistas sink in.  The landscapes are other worldly and ever changing.

You’ll ride past bubbling hot pools, glaciers, birch woods and black sand.  Even in the same day. You can find information here about how Icebike works with authorities on trail building.
Our talented local guides are great riders, fun people and experienced mountaineers. They will know options for trails on any day. They will use your time in Iceland well.

Is this trip suitable for my skill level?:

You don’t have to have experience riding eMTB, but you must have good experience riding mountain bikes. This trip is created for the strong intermediate to advanced AM / Enduro rider.  If you enjoy technical trails and natural singletracks in the remote, this is a good match. You need to be happy riding 4-6 hours per day on challenging terrain. Challenging uphill rides including “hike a bike” rewarded with once in a lifetime views. If you’ve seen videos of Iceland mountain biking: this is it!

*If in doubt: ask us! We can also arrange private trips for groups of mixed skill levels.

Facilities and food:

In 2023 we will retire highland cabins, bunk beds, sleeping bags and common rooms for our highland trips. MTB Riders need good rest and deserve great food. Instead of riding (boring) ferry routes we ride the best singletracks all day. Post ride: Put our bikes on Icebike custom built bike trailers, crack open a cold one, and hop on the support vehicle that brings us to our hotel .

We will make the most of your time in Iceland.

Find information on what to wear and have a look at Icebike Adventures picture gallery from our trips. Grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy some of your biking videos from Iceland. Last but not least, get some practical information on your trips and what to expect when riding in Iceland.

“The volcanic landscape covered in green moss is mesmerizing and photos hardly do it justice. The idea of going and finding perfect single track that laces through the hills was our goal, and with the help of Magne from Icebike we set out to find the best trails the south island had to offer. “

Dinner: On the groundfloor of the hotel there is a store, foodhall and a bar. Head to the foodhall in your own time -we recommend fish of the day at restaurant "Hipstur".

Day 3

The BIG day: Welcome to the highlands! This is the backcountry postcard area "Landmannalaugar" Overnight in highland B&B

In the end, weather is the boss of all plans in Iceland and the biggest character anyone has to deal with on the island. So. Days 2 & 3 in the plan can, and will be swapped if weather demands., - we want to ride the best trails in the best possible conditions. Here's the plan: Breakfast 07:00-08:30. Them time to check out and hop on the Icebike van. The drive from today is about 2,5 hours to the trails in nature reserve of Landmannalaugar. This will be a long day with Highland riding at it's best.  Today we ride Landmannalaugar singletracks. They are located at the start of famous hiking trail "Laugavegurinn".  The rich contrast of black sand and bright glaciers starts our day with breathtaking views. We pedal through the colourful Rhyolite mountains and wind down a steep trail to a green oasis on lush river banks. The wildly-formed canyons along this section of fast singletrack harken back to an age when our mother earth was still in her infancy. To cap this choice day of riding, our terminus point provides an unforgettable panorama of distant glaciers and azure lakes. Post ride: The 1 hour shuttle to the highland B&B is absolutely worth it for the made up beds, warm showers and excellent meal, the well deserved tasty dinner is served at the B&B restaurant.

Day 4

Canyons and Tectonic area

Wake up in the remote B&B we have breakfast and head out. Today we work our way back to civilisation.  We stop enroute at one of Icelands most beautiful waterfalls, named “Háifoss” for a nice singletrack 1-2 hour ride.  We start at a scenic point overlooking the waterfall from the top before we start our ride down into the canyon carved by the river leading into the valley Þjórsárdalur. Hop back on support van to ride one more carefully selected singletrack. We know the best trails in the area, cause we built them! Packed lunch and shuttle back to the Greenhouse hotel. Dinner: We have one absolute favourite pizzeria in Iceland and tonight we bring you there, pair pizzas with some local brews, photos and stories. What a trip.
