Falcon AM mountain: 5 days of singletrack heaven

The Falcon AM MTB trip is the shorter version of our flagship awarded trip “Raven”.  We focus on tectonic and geothermal areas, ride the waterfall/canoyn trails and top up at beautiful backcountry treasure “Landmannalaugar area”. We explore Iceland’s rugged and magical backcountry terrain. This is the trip for the advanced all-mountain / enduro MTB rider or technical XC riders.  We will make the most of your time in Iceland.

On the trip we start exploring new trails in a geothermal area.  Overnighting in charming village Hveragerði and making use of mtb trails the Icebike team has built in surrounding geothermal area. Then we head out to explore Iceland’s rugged and magical backcountry terrain around nature reserve Fjallabak, Ljótipollur and Landmannalaugar area in epic days of Iceland riding.

This is a trip for the experienced riders only, riding a quality 4-7 inch full-suspension trail bike.

*No need to bring a group, solo riders welcome.  Price includes acommodation in twin or double rooms. Single rooms available at 90.000 isk per person for the trip.

Iceland highlands:

We head to the vast highlands of Iceland where the short summer of 8 weeks creates a short window for biking.  The area is a protected nature reserve and of course we treat it with respect.  Our talented local guides are great riders, fun people and experienced mountaineers. They will know options for trails on any day. They will use your time in Iceland well. Mountain biking in Iceland is not about racing through the trails. It is as important to take a moment to enjoy the views.  To let the vistas sink in.  The landscapes are other worldly and ever changing.   You’ll ride past bubbling hot pools, glaciers, birch woods and black sand.  Even in the same day.  You can find information here about how Icebike works with authorities on trailbuilding.

Is this trip suitable for my skill level?:

This trip is aimed for the strong intermediate to advanced AM / Enduro rider.  If you enjoy technical trails and natural singletracks in the remote, this is a good match. You need to be happy riding 4-6 hours per day on challenging terrain. Challenging uphill rides including “hike a bike” rewarded with once in a lifetime views. If you’ve seen videos of Iceland mountainbiking: this is it!

Facilities and food:

In 2023 we are retiring highland cabins, bunk beds, sleeping bags and common rooms for our highland trips. We will endure the (sometimes) 30-60 min shuttle post ride to reach private rooms, warm showers and excellent food. At least two days we ride all the way to our hotel.  We believe our riders will enjoy the days better having had a good nights sleep.

If you want more information on the cabins we use, check this page out. Find information on what to wear and have a look at Icebike Adventures picture gallery from our trips. Grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy some of your biking videos from Iceland. Last but not least, get some practical information on your trips and what to expect when riding in Iceland.

“The volcanic landscape covered in green moss is mesmerizing and photos hardly do it justice. The idea of going and finding perfect single track that laces through the hills was our goal, and with the help of Magne from Icebike we set out to find the best trails the south island had to offer. “

Day 1

Welcome to Iceland: Meet, shuttle, brief, build, eat, RIDE! Overnight in Reykjavik center

Welcome to Iceland!  On arrival/meetup  day: Our guides will be available at the hotel in Reykjavík to assist with bike build if needed.  (If rental your bike will be ready to ride, ofcourse).  Post build = light lunch and head out for a short warmup spin.  Today is about getting to know the guides, learn about the days to come and make sure bikes are in perfect order.  Time in afternoon / evening to explore Reykjavík center at own pace..
Day 2

Steamer Geothermal area Overnight in Hveragerdi village

Pick up in Reykjavík center we head straight out of town to start riding. We head to Hengill Tectonic area about 45 minutes drive from town - this is a day of 15-20k All-Mountain Enduro Singletracks in a geothermal area packed with both up and downhill technical singletrack challenges. If you like technical AM trail and stunning scenery this one is for you. This day is all about challenging uphill sections rewarded with fun fast descent. Ride the dormant volcanoes and take in the views of valleys and lakes surrounded by geothermal activity. And that's not all. Post lunch we can do shuttle runs for some additional singletrack downhill riding, or hop on the van to get checked in at newly opened Greenhouse hotel in thw village of Hveragerði. Dinner is casual, there is a foodhall with selection of restaurants to pick from on the ground floor of the Greenhouse, take a pick of burger or, our recommendation, catch of the day at Hipstur restaurant. After dinner, if you fancy a dip in a warm river under the midnight sun just bring your bike out and ride some beautiful singletracks at your own pace up the mountain to earn your dip in the river.
Day 3

The BIG day: Welcome to the highlands! This is the backcountry postcard area "Landmannalaugar" Overnight in highland B&B

Wake up, breakfast and check out, - time to make our way to the highlands!   This is a long day. Highland riding at it's best.  Today we ride Landmannalaugar singletracks. They are located at the start of famous hiking trail "Laugavegurinn".  The rich contrast of black sand and bright glaciers starts our day with breathtaking views. We pedal through the colourful Rhyolite mountains and wind down a steep trail to a green oasis on lush river banks. The wildly-formed canyons along this section of fast singletrack harken back to an age when our mother earth was still in her infancy. To cap this choice day of riding, our terminus point provides an unforgettable panorama of distant glaciers and azure lakes.   Post ride: The 1 hour shuttle to our highland bed & breakfast is absolutely worth it for the made up beds, warm showers and excellent meal.      *Weather is the boss off all plans. If swapping the order of the days will make the riding better, the guides can and will ride the trails on day #4 on day #3. We go above and beyond to make the best use of our riders time in Iceland. . /p>
Day 4

Highlands back to civilisation Overnight in Hveragerdi village

Wake up in the remote B&B we have breakfast and head out. Today we work our way back to civilisation.  We stop enroute at one of Icelands most beautiful waterfalls, named “Háifoss” for a nice singletrack 1-2 hour ride.  We start at a scenic point overlooking the waterfall from the top before we start our ride down into the canyon carved by the river leading into the valley Þjórsárdalur. Hop back on support van to ride one more carefully selected singletrack. We know the best trails in the area, cause we built them! Packed lunch and shuttle back to the Greenhouse hotel. Tonight we sample some locally brewed beer and the best pizza in the Northern Hemisphere.  No pressure to deliver dear: http://olverk.is !  *If you are on a tight schedule it is possible to end the trip tonight, get a transfer to the int'l airport and catch a flight in AM of day #5.
Day 5

Packing up and saying goodbye

The last day is about recovery and getting ready to travel home. Breakfast at the Greenhouse, check out and we will shuttle you back to Reykavík in afternoon. Thank you for riding with us! *If you are on a tight schedule it is possible to end the trip on day #4 heading straight to the airport to fetch a morning flight out. (ask info@icebikeadventures.com for arrangements)
