Riding a fatbike, in the dark, in Iceland is something that few people have experienced. Cold weather is fine when you stay warm by pedalling. We reach areas with no other people in sight. In a nature reserve well away from any busy roads. The northern lights have their own way. Sometimes they are strong, sometimes they are not visible. When they light up the sky it is an experience like no other. To witness northern lights away from any crowds is unique. Silence and the only sound to be heard is when your guide pours some hot chocolate to enjoy while taking a break from biking. The nature reserve is our playground. The fatbikes with bikelights our tools. We go far and beyond to reach the best spots.

Fatbikes as a tool for Northern Lights hunt.

Our super jeep brings us away from the city lights and from there we ride into the night with lights on the bikes. When our lights go off, the real light show begins! This trip is suitable to riders of all skill levels. The tool for the trip is the carbon OTSO fatbike with the Icelandic Lauf fork and studded tires. We pick the best location for the ride based on snow conditions and Northern Lights forecast.

You can do a lot in one day in Iceland! In summer: Days are long, almost 24hrs of daylight and we recommend using the bright nights well. Find information on what to wear and have a look at Icebike Adventures picture gallery from our trips. Grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy some of your biking videos from Iceland. Last but not least, get some practical information on your trips and what to expect when riding in Iceland.

More about this tour

Pedals: Icebike Adventures provides bike & helmet. We provide flat pedals but we are happy to change pedals if you bring your own.

On what to wear for biking in Iceland winter:  If you don’t have biking clothes dress like you are going hiking.  We recommend a wool base layer and water/windproof outer layer, warm socks, warm gloves, thin hat for under the helmet.  Jeans and cotton clothing are not good on this trip, cotton is in general heavier than competitive synthetic fabrics and because it absorbs so much moisture it gets even heavier when wet / sweaty.

Icebike provides an energy bar.  In general no further snacks are needed on the trip but riders are welcome to bring their own.  Icebike provides bottles of water & hot chocolate.
