The story behind Icebike Adventures
The beginning
In 2006, local rider Magne Kvam brought photographer Sterling Lorence and rider Matt Hunter to the highlands of Iceland for the very first mountain bike shoot in the country. The result was "Trip of the Year" in Bike Magazine and "Photo of the Year" on Pinkbike. The trail choices for that trip came from years Magne had spent riding in the highlands, learning the land one valley at a time.
In the years that followed, Magne began bringing small groups of riders to the highlands each summer. In 2013, Ásta Briem joined Magne as a partner in Icebike and in life. Together, they lead a tight team of guides, building something that started with one rider's obsession into Iceland's leading mountain bike operation.
Since the beginning, Icebike has had the privilege to grow organically. Each year the bike fleet grows, more trails are built and great people join the team.
Pioneers
There are many "firsts" in the history of Icebike. Icebike was the first in Iceland to run multi-day mountain biking trips. The first to offer heli-biking. The first to do fat bike tours and multi-day gravel tours. In 2020, after being fiercely against e-mountain bikes Magne tried one. He got back from the ride with a big smile. There was no going back after that ride and now Icebike has a fleet of Santa Cruz full suspension e-bikes, fantastic tools for exploring Iceland.
Magne built Iceland's first bike park, and together with Ásta, he has continued to pioneer MTB trail building in the country.
That pioneering spirit hasn't slowed down. Ásta and Magne actively work with local authorities to build and maintain trails and bike parks. They scout, build, design, and maintain many of the routes that put, and keep Iceland on the map as a great destination for mountain biking.
Mission & Vision
We strive to deliver riding adventures that couldn't happen anywhere else on earth. Rooted in two decades of local knowledge, we connect riders to Iceland's raw and unforgettable trails.
We will build a mountain biking culture in Iceland that lasts by keeping trails open, intact, and thriving for every generation that rides after us.

Pro riders in Iceland
When professional riders visit Iceland, they tend to team up with Icebike. Over the years we've been fortunate to welcome and work with some of the best in the world.
Riders like Geoff Gulevich, Korbinian Engstler, Tobias Woggon, Andrew Neethling, Matt Hunter, Manon Carpenter, KC Deane, Lael Wilcox, Jenny Graham, Graham Agassiz, Hans Rey, and Steve Peat. Our media page has the stories and footage from those collaborations.

Ride responsibly
Iceland's biking scene is young, and the rules around trail access are still taking shape. The highlands are vast, unique, and largely untouched. With a growing season of just six to eight weeks, the land has very little time to recover from any damage. The way you ride today shapes the future of mountain biking. Please ride respectfully.
Stay on marked trails.
Leave no trace.
Yield to hikers and livestock.
Share and be nice.

Every year, Icebike takes on a handful of tailor-made trips. We will bring you to our favourite areas, the places you simply won't find on your own.
Make the most of your time in Iceland by tapping into decades of local knowledge to reach the best riding the country has to offer.
