Riding the Hengill Volcanic Area
For some of the best mountain biking in Iceland, head to the Hengill volcano (Reykjadalur area), just outside Reykjavík. The area offers steaming geothermal landscapes, mossy valleys, and incredible natural single-track. Perfect for exploring on an e-bike MTB.
Getting to the trails
Hengill is known for scenic, technical single-tracks with stunning views. Renting a bike at the Reykjadalur Trailcenter, located right at the base of the mountain, makes it easy to start your ride.
Who is it for?
Higher altitude trails are best suited for intermediate to advanced riders. Beginners and casual riders can enjoy the lower-altitude Geo Trails, which offer scenic XC riding.
Terrain and highlights
The “Steamer” routes run through geothermal valleys and along ridges, featuring narrow, technical trails and rewarding views. Expect steady climbs and fun descents. This is ideal terrain for a full-suspension e-bike MTB.
