Description

The Tectonic tour is a three-day trip built for experienced mountain bikers who want Iceland at its most raw. Riding in the shadow of the Hengill volcano, you will cover geothermal valleys, tectonic ridge-lines and fast-flowing natural single-track through some of the most dramatic scenery in the country. Expect a variety of landscapes, including geothermal activity and stunning views of Thingvellir National Park.

Day One. Geothermal Wonders of Reykjadalur.

  • Pick-up in central Reykjavík, 40-minute drive to the Icebike Trailcenter in Hveragerdi.

  • Meet the guides, pick up your bikes, safety briefing and gear check.

  • Head out into the geothermal landscape on a mix of natural and man-made single-track.

  • Ride through stunning valleys where steam rises from the ground. The famous Steamer trail combo is the centrepiece of the day.

  • Get back to the hotel and eat dinner, served at the Greenhouse Hotel food hall.

  • Optional selfguided ride to the warm river for a dip after dinner.

Day Two. Tectonic Challenge.

  • Breakfast at the hotel, and get driven from the hotel to Reykjadalur Trailcenter.

  • Climb to Ölkelduháls, a multicoloured ridge overlooking Lake Þingvallavatn and Þingvellir National Park.

  • Ride through colourful valleys before following the canyon down.

  • Quick lunch stop.

  • Drive to Háifoss Waterfall and have an afternoon ride at one of Iceland's tallest waterfalls - technical canyon trails with dramatic views.

  • Late finish at our favourite pizzeria next door to the hotel. Pizzas paired with local brews - good stories, good company, a good way to end a fantastic day.

Day Three. Volcano Valley.

  • Breakfast at hotel, and get driven from the hotel to Reykjadalur Trailcenter.

  • Ride the tectonic landscape - fast natural single-track and ridge descents through terrain shaped by Iceland's ever-changing geology.

  • Afternoon takes you through lush green valleys fed by volcanic soil. Follow the river and lava fields before tackling the technical trails of Grensdalur ridge. Finish on a fast-flowing man-made trail.

  • Drive back to Reykjavík, drop-off at your hotel, arriving around 18:00.

Drop off: Any hotel in the greater Reykjavík area, Day 3, around 18:00.

Skill and Fitness Level: This trip is for experienced riders only. Expect steep, loose and narrow trails. Good technical skills and solid riding fitness are essential. If you are comfortable with challenging enduro terrain, you will love every minute of this.

Solo, group, private: The trip is open to solo riders, and private trips can be arranged for groups of varying skill levels.
