Háifoss waterfall drops into a stunning canyon
Háifoss - 122 Metres of Freefall Into a Canyon
Háifoss is one of Iceland's tallest waterfalls, dropping 122 metres into a deep canyon carved by the river Fossá. It is the kind of place that stops you mid-ride. You hear it before you see it, and when you reach the overlook, the scale hits hard.
If the canyon looks familiar, it should. Háifoss served as a filming location for the Stranger Things season finale, and the real thing is even more dramatic than it appeared on screen.
The Riding
The single-track at Háifoss starts at the overlook above the falls and drops into the canyon, following the river down into the valley of Þjórsárdalur. It is technical, exposed, and spectacular - the kind of trail where you have to remind yourself to look at the path, not the view. The ride typically runs 1 to 2 hours, depending on conditions and how many times you stop to take it all in.
