What to expect

What to expect

Highlights

  • 4 full days of singletrack on full suspension eMTBs, through some of Iceland's most dramatic landscapes.

  • Geothermal Riding: Based in Hveragerði, you’ll spend two days on scenic single-tracks through active steam vents and volcanic valleys.

  • Highland Backcountry: Ride the unique Landmannalaugar area and spend one night at a highland centre conveniently located in the middle of nowhere. Decide if you think “Ugly Pond” is properly named.

  • Expert Guiding: Local guides who ride hard, know the mountains inside out, and will always find the best possible riding, whatever the weather throws at us. Good company guaranteed.

Description

Falcon is designed for experienced eMTB riders seeking tough, rewarding days on Icelandic single-track. The trip covers two primary regions: the geothermal trails of the Hengill volcano and the rugged highlands of Landmannalaugar nature reserve, with a focus on technical terrain, steep climbs and long descents. Expect 4 to 6 hours of daily riding on natural, all-mountain and enduro terrain. Solid mountain bike skills are essential. eMTB-specific experience is not required, but you should be comfortable navigating steep, technical terrain.

Beautiful landscapes, fantastic single-track and remote terrain. We will make the most of your time in Iceland.

Tour plan

Tour plan

Day 1: Welcome to Iceland. Today We Ride.

  • Pick up anywhere in the Greater Reykjavík area between 09:00 and 09:30 and go to the Reykjadalur Trailcenter.

  • Meet the guides, get the bikes ready, safety briefing and gear check.

  • Head straight out onto Steamer Trail, single-tracks built by the Icebike team running directly into the geothermal landscapes. First taste of Icelandic single-track on full suspension eMTBs.

  • Check in to the Greenhouse Hotel.

  • Dinner vouchers for the food hall downstairs included - the evening is yours.

  • (Optional) Take the eMTB out self-guided to a warm river for a dip.

Day 2: This is Hengill

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Ride deeper into the Hengill mountain area.

  • Ride lines with sweeping views over Þingvellir National Park.

  • Packed lunch en route.

  • Pedal back to Hveragerði over mountain passes.

  • Dinner: the best pizza in the northern hemisphere, paired with local brews.

Days 2 and 3 may be swapped depending on weather and trail conditions. We always ride the best trails in the best possible conditions.

Day 3: Welcome to the Highlands!

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out.

  • Travel to Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve - the starting point of the famous Laugavegurinn hiking trail. Opening views of black sand contrasts and distant glaciers.

  • Ride through colourful rhyolite mountains and descend a steep trail to a green river oasis. Fast single-track through wildly formed canyons. Final panorama of distant glaciers and azure lakes.

  • Travel back to the highland B&B, eat dinner and rest up for tomorrow.

Day 4: Grand Finale. Canyons and Tectonic Terrain.

  • Breakfast at the remote B&B.

  • First ride on our way back to the capital: Háifoss, one of Iceland's tallest waterfalls (and the backdrop for the Stranger Things season finale).

  • Descend into the canyon and down into the valley of Þjórsárdalur.

  • Packed lunch en route.

  • Final ride on the way back to the capital, on the lava moonscapes of Heiðmörk nature reserve, close to Reykjavík.

  • A fast, satisfying finish to four days of riding.

  • Post-ride shuttle to any hotel in the Greater Reykjavík area, arriving around 18:00.

  • What a trip!

Our guides will flip the plan upside down if it means better weather and better trails. Each evening and morning, they will brief you on what lies ahead. We love to ride, and our mission is simple: make the most of your time in Iceland.

We took a multiple day bike tour with Icebike and it went above and beyond our expectations.

The singletrack is second to none and the amount of terrain you can cover in a day is literally 2-3 times what backpackers typically do. Of course, knowing where to go is key and that’s where Magne comes in. He seems to know every trail and every town and he delivers the best of Iceland on a silver platter.

I'm a pretty good rider and was challenged each day with the very diverse terrain. I'm also a very picky eater, and both guides Runar and David, bent over backwards to meet my dietary challenges. To say this trip was awesome would just fall short of the truth. From beginning to end Icebike adventures is a well oiled machine.

It was uniquely fantastic! From personalized planning, to exceptional guides, the acceptance of the staff at the trail center, my group of 4 had a bucket list adventure. Iceland will continue to grow as a MTB epic destination and Icebike knows how to make it truly epic. Our guides were extremely talented and the rides are as challenging as you desire. Post rides, the accommodation and dining experiences arranged by Icebike were just perfect.

Our local guides, Kati and Andri, were exceptional. They planned our daily schedules around the volatile weather to take advantage of the nice days and find sheltered trails when it was raining, and were helpful navigating the more difficult sections of the trail, and taking care of all the bike maintenance to make it a seamless experience. I couldn’t recommend Icebike enough, they are definitely the best company to go mountain biking in Iceland with. We will never forget this once in a life time experience.
