Hveragerdi Town

A place where you ride hard and eat well.

Hveragerði - Our Home Base

Five minutes from the Icebike Trailcenter in Reykjadalur, a village of 3,000 people sits, steam rising from the ground beneath your wheels. This is Hveragerði - or as we call it, HurdyGurdy. The name translates to "gardens of hot springs," and it delivers exactly that.

Just 45 minutes from Reykjavík, Hveragerði and the surrounding Mt. Hengill area offer some of the best riding we know. But there is more to this place than trails.

Flowers and Hot Mud

Founded in 1929, the town grew around its geothermal energy. Locals used the earth's heat for everything from laundry to wool processing. Today, it is known as Blómabærinn (the Flower Town), where Icelanders flock every spring for garden supplies. It is also one of the few places in Europe that grows bananas. A small crop, about a tonne a year, feeds the locals.

With a high number of artists and a surprising density of top-tier restaurants, it is a place where you ride hard and eat well.
