E-Bike MTB Biking in Iceland
Why We Love E-Bikes in Iceland
We are fans of using e-bikes and eMTBs here. They are a total game-changer! They aren't just a "cheat code". They are a fantastic tool for exploring our unique landscape and making the most of your time.

Single-tracks for electric mountain bikes
The routes around the Trailcenter Reykjadalur were specifically designed with e-bikes in mind. On these trails, the uphills are just as fun as the downhills, and the extra boost allows you to cover more ground.

Getting Your E-bike Here
There is one major logistical hurdle: You cannot fly with e-bike batteries. International aviation rules are very strict about this.
If you want your own bike: You’ll need to arrive by ship (like the Smyril Line ferry).
The easier way: We have a fleet of fantastic e-bikes for rent right here, including the full-suspension Santa Cruz Vala and even a 24” full-suspension e-bike for the kids.
A Word of Caution: Battery Life
Be careful: there are very limited spots to charge e-bikes once you're out there. We do not recommend self-guiding on an e-bike in the highlands. If you run out of battery, it can be a very long and challenging ride back to civilisation. We have extenders for rent, but consult with a local before heading far into the wild.
Also: The unplugged MTB is still the winner for any routes that require hike-a-bike for obvious reasons. This is true for routes in the highlands, thor and more.

Respect Nature & Safety
Icelanders care deeply about the land. It is extremely important to ride on the trail, always. Our ecosystem is fragile, so please help us keep it pristine.
Navigating the Weather
The weather here can change from sunshine to a snowstorm in minutes. It makes the island magical, but also dangerous.
Solo Travellers: Check safetravel.is and vedur.is daily for weather and road conditions.
Guided Tours: If you’re on an Icebike trip, just follow your guide’s lead. They’ll adjust the plan every morning based on trail conditions and wind.
