Gravel Single-day Trip
Have a day, want to ride?
The easiest, most accessible way to pedal gravel for a single day if you are visiting Iceland is to rent your bike at Lundur and head straight out. No transfers, no fuss — just great riding from the moment you clip in.
Getting there:
15 minutes' drive from the city center - our Trailcenter Lundur.
There is public transport from Reykjavík, and although slow, it works. straeto.is will help you plan your route.
You can expect to pedal through urban areas, into Heidmork nature reserve and back. If you want the epic Icelandic highlands, you need more than a day, as they are located 3 hours' drive away from Reykjavik.
If you want to wander further and get a guide and even a shuttle, here is our recommendation:

Lava gravel. Go Further - Reykjanes Peninsula
For riders who want a bigger day, pedal all the way out to the Reykjanes Peninsula and book a shuttle back to Reykjavík. This day trip is the perfect introduction to Iceland's winding, hard-packed gravel roads, lava fields, moss-covered volcanoes and moonscape roads with new views at every turn. Epic views, raw volcanic landscapes and a serious day in the saddle. This trip can be done as a tailor-made tour.

Good to Know Before You Ride
Water is limited beyond Heiðmörk. Reykjanes is raw, dry lava with no cafés or restaurants until you reach Grindavík on the shoreline. Bring a full water bottle and pack a snack.
Phone coverage is good across most of the peninsula. If you lose signal, a short press of the pedal will bring it back.
The weather in Iceland changes fast. Dress in layers and plan accordingly.
