Using a Camera & Drone in Iceland
Flying a Drone in Iceland
Iceland is breathtaking from the ground. From the air, it is on another level entirely. Many riders and travellers bring a drone to capture the landscapes, and it is easy to understand why. That said, there are rules, and they are worth knowing before you fly.
Where You Can and Cannot Fly
Flying over national parks and protected nature reserves requires special permission. This includes some of the highland areas where our trips take place. Just ask your guide.
Respect other people, horses and other animals around you.
Practical Tips
Iceland wind is no joke. What looks calm on the ground can be very different at altitude. Fly with caution and make sure you have enough battery to make it back “home”.
Batteries drain faster in the cold. Bring spares and keep them warm.
Respect Nature
The same rule that applies on the trail applies in the air. Stay within permitted areas, leave no trace, and do not disturb wildlife or other travellers. The highlands are a rare and fragile environment.
