What to expect

What to expect

Highlights

  • Ride forgotten mountain pass roads replaced by modern tunnels, now some of the most remote and dramatic gravel routes in the world.

  • Take on the Svalvogar peninsula, considered Iceland's most beautiful and most challenging road, timed to the tides.

  • Descend to ancient fishing villages, meet the locals and eat exceptionally well along the way.

  • Secret spots, favourite restaurants and insider knowledge of the Westfjords. This is Iceland, as very few people see it.

Description

The Westfjords Adventure takes you into the oldest and most remote corner of Iceland, along roads that modern tunnels have left behind. Over four days on the bike, you will ride a carefully selected mix of gravel, dirt, double-track and tarmac through dramatic fjords, towering mountain passes and small fishing villages where time moves at a different pace. The trip is designed to showcase the very best of these roads, and the riding is as challenging as it is beautiful. Expect steep climbs, thrilling descents and scenery that stops you in your tracks. Embrace rain, sun and wind. This is original Iceland.

Iceland has some of the world's most beautiful gravel roads. We will show you our favourite routes, secret spots and best places to eat and stay, and share our knowledge of the Westfjords with you.

Tour plan

Tour plan

Day 1: Welcome to the Westfjords. Today We Ride.

  • Fly into Ísafjörður from Reykjavík domestic airport - we recommend taking the first flight of the day or arriving the evening before.

  • Pick-up at Ísafjörður domestic airport.

  • Meet the guides, pick up your bikes, safety briefing and gear check.

  • Sit down for lunch in Ísafjörður.

  • Head out for a warm-up day of riding to get a feel for the terrain and each other.

  • Get back to the hotel in Ísafjörður and have dinner.

Day 2: The Mountain Passes of the West

  • Breakfast buffet and check out of the hotel in Ísafjörður.

  • Head out to ride the first proper mountain pass of the trip. Steep climb followed by a thrilling descent down to one of the most beautiful fjords in the area.

  • The day ends with a stretch of tarmac rolling into the small village of Þingeyri.

  • Dinner and overnight at Kex hotel in Þingeyri.

Day 3: The Big Day

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Guides brief you on the plan - start time is set according to the tides. The Svalvogar peninsula road is impassable at high tide.

  • Ride the considered Iceland's most beautiful and most challenging road for cars, constructed to hug the coastline in a way that feels almost impossible.

  • A full day of riding through stunning scenery and unbelievable engineering.

  • Return to hotel after a big day on the bike and have dinner.

Day 4: The Forgotten Pass and Dynjandi Waterfall

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Tunnels are replacing the mountain pass roads of the Westfjords one by one. Today you ride one that has been left behind.

  • Sheep and remote farms are a far more likely sight than other vehicles or people. Remote, quiet, dramatic - a completely different feel to Day 3.

  • The day builds to Dynjandi, one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls.

  • Ride back to Ísafjörður.

  • Celebratory dinner at our absolute favourite restaurant in Iceland. Raise a glass to epic days in the Westfjords.

Day 5: Relax, Recover. This is Goodbye.

  • Wake up at your own pace.

  • Hearty breakfast at the hotel.

  • Pack up and check out

  • We say our goodbyes. Thanks for riding with us

If I could make it 6 stars I would. We had an incredible time. The biking was great but the scenery and sites were spectacular. Asta did a great job of planning our trip according to what we were looking for and Gummi was an incredible guide. Thanks!!
