Trail Building

Team Icebike works hard to create new opportunities for cycling in Iceland.

& Developing Trails

Big part of our job is to build and maintain trails.

Icebike Adventures collaborates closely with local authorities to create, design, maintain, and keep trails open for riders across Iceland.

Our home base is Mt. Hengill, where we’ve been developing trails since 2008. In this unique geothermal landscape, we maintain old sheep tracks, preserve hiking paths, and craft new routes tailored for mountain biking. Among our favorite trails in the area are Tectonic, Steamer, and The Fox. Beyond Hengill, we’ve contributed to the creation and upkeep of some of Iceland’s most stunning trails in Þórsmörk and the Fjallabak region, working alongside local forestry associations.

In 2010, we proudly played the key role in designing and building Iceland’s first bike park – Skálafell Bikepark. Since then, we’ve developed several small MTB practice areas in the greater Reykjavík area, designed to inspire the younger generation to get outside and ride. We are also proud to have been a part of creating the bikepark in Hlíðarfjall in Akureyri, in the  north of Iceland.

Each summer, Magne, founder and owner of Icebike Adventures, can be found trailbuilding—often alongside our guides and friends. His passion and hands-on mentality have helped grow Iceland’s mountain biking scene from the ground up.

Mountain biking is still a relatively new sport in Iceland, and the cycling community remains close-knit. At Icebike, we believe biking is one of the best ways to have fun, stay fit, connect with nature, and explore the outdoors—and for that, we need trails.

That’s why Magne and the Icebike team are dedicated to building and expanding new opportunities for mountain biking across the country.
