Steamer is the ultimate all-mountain e-bike MTB day trip for experienced riders who want technical trails and stunning scenery in equal measure. Starting from the Reykjadalur Trailcenter, the route takes you deep into the geothermal landscape of Hveragerði on a full-suspension eMTB, navigating narrow technical single-track through an area where steam rises from the ground, and the earth reminds you exactly where you are. Lava fields, small waterfalls, rivers and steaming mud pools make up the backdrop for 20 to 30 km of varied, ever-changing terrain. Natural trails, steep sections and fast-flowing descents. This trip is for experienced riders only. If technical all-mountain riding and otherworldly scenery sound like your kind of day, this one is for you.

Tour plan

Tour plan

1. Check-in + safety setup (10-20 min)

  • You arrive at our Trailcenter Reykjadalur.

  • Helmet issued and quick safety briefing.

  • Bike setup and safety check (brakes, tyres, suspension, battery level, assist modes).

  • We help you choose the best loop for the day based on weather, trail conditions and how long you want to ride.

  • Clear guidance on key junctions, trail etiquette and what to do if conditions change.

2. Ride out (self-guided from our Trailcenter)

  • You roll straight from Reykjadalur into the Hengill geothermal area.

  • Expect a mix of narrow, technical single-track and faster-flowing sections, with steam venting from the ground as you ride.

  • Some sections can be steep, loose and exposed - this ride is best for experienced MTB riders with solid technical control.

3. Choose your distance (ride at your own pace)

  • Typical distance: 20 - 30 km depending on the loop you pick, pace and conditions.

  • Typical total time: 2 - 5 hours, including stops.

  • The full-suspension eMTB gives you the range and capability to explore further than a regular mountain bike would allow.

4. Optional stop

  • If you want a break, the cafe next door to the Trailcenter is an easy pit stop before or after your loop.

5. Return + finish

  • The Steamer route options consist of three trails, all starting and finishing at Reykjadalur.

  • Return to the Trailcenter for drop-off and a quick wrap-up with the team.
