To the highlands
Pick up at Reykjavik Central Bus station. We start with a 30 minute drive to our base to get bikes ready and have a chat with the guides. Our first ride will run through old and new lava. Ride the hard packed lava roads on this otherworldly peninsula that recently rose to fame with two eruptions in 2021 & 2022. We ride from the outskirts of Reykjavik towards the recent eruption site at Fagridalur. Lunch: lobster soup at seaside village. Post ride: shuttle to the small town of Hveragerði. Dinner = Best pizza in the northern hemisphere paired with ale's brewed with geothermal energy. During the day the support vehicle will available if riders need a break. Evening activity: If you have energy to spare there' a nice hike nearby to a warm river. Take a soak and recharge for the next two days of biking.
Otherworldly
Breakfast buffet at hotel before we hop on the support vehicle that brings us to the highlands. Grab your bike and get ready for a ride of a lifetime. Cruise through endless lava soil backroads. Landscapes change at every turn. Remote. Otherwordly Icelandic vistas at their best. Weather will dictate if we ride or drive to our hotel for the night, conveniently located in the middle of nowhere. Made up beds, warm shower and great food is a great reward for the pedalling.
From highlands towards civilisation
Breakfast at the highland center, get ready to pedal through lavafields near volcano Hekla. Make your way through curvy backroads, challenging uphills and descents towards civilisation. Hop on support vehicle post ride for a 2 hour drive back to Reykjavík, there in time for dinner. Thanks for a great backcountry gravel riding experience.
