Skill and Fitness level:
Gravel riding the fjords and villages
The Westfjords offer superb gravel biking on low/no traffic gravel roads with access to hotels, restaurants and local culture. This tour is suitable for fit cyclists that value the comfort of a good bed and great food after riding! Pedal through challenging climbs and fun descents – with access to a support vehicle. Nothing compares to exploring a country by your own physical strength. Westfjords are a remote part of Iceland where the main line of work is fisheries. Culture thrives in the Westfjords as the locals know they have to create their own opportunities, shows and art. Many of Icelands most cherished artist come from or have a strong connection to the westfjords. We sample the best food from small local restaurants, using fresh produce from the area.
In the end: weather is the boss of all plans in Iceland. This is when local knowledge is the make or break of a succesful bike day. Our guides have a plan A,B & C for any day of the trip. Our guides are experienced mountaineers with extensive knowledge of the Iceland. In Autumn of 2021 we were proud to create a trip for the super talented Jenny Graham for the Global Cycling Network. Trailer available here. This trip covers the same roads, same itinerary as Jenni rides in the film.

Fly to Ísafjörður - build bikes - warmup ride
We recommend flying in on the first flight from Reykjavík - or even the day before. On the first day we'll pick you up at the domestic airport in ÍSAFJÖRÐUR. We gather in the town of Ísafjörður - the "capital" of the Westfjords, 3000 inhabitants. Build our bikes, have lunch and head out for a day of biking. Post ride: dinner and rest for the days to come.
Introducing: The mountainpasses of the west
Breakfast buffet & check out of our hotel at Isafjordur. Head out to ride our first mountain pass of the trip. Thrilling descent down to one of the most beautiful fjords in the area. Ending with a stretch of tarmac to the small village of Þingeyri
The big day
This is what you came to Iceland for. Stunning scenery and unbelievable road constructed around the peninsula Svalvogar. The guide picks the time to ride according to tides. The road is impassable at high tide. Considered Icelands most beautiful and dangerous (to cars) road.
The forgotten mountain pass and Dynjandi waterfall. Top it up with finale dinner
Tunnels are replacing many of the mountain pass roads in the west. This is certainly one of them. Riding this road may feel like going back in time. Sheep and remote farms will be a far more likely sight than any vehicles or people. Shuttle back to Isafjörður after the ride for a big celebratory dinner at our absolute favourite restaurant in Iceland. We raise glasses to celebrate our epic adventure in the Westfjords.
Relax, Recover - This is goodbye.
Wake up at own pace & enjoy hearty breakfast - when it is time to check out we say our goodbyes - this is it, thanks for riding with us!
